So I was the dummy that didn't realize that this was based on an SCP, but it was really fun even not knowing! I love the achievements feature and plan to go back to try and get them all.
This was a fun little game, great concept, good humor. I had to muddle through a few parts and I think I glitched the AI at one point. I might have also messed up that appeasement ending. Overall very enjoyable, and I'm glad I played!
thanks dude! Yeah the appeasement is feeding the tapes to it. The getting caught bug which is where you ended has been fixed in the latest version. It was a weird timing bug. Glad you enjoyed!
thankyou! Great playthough! Loved watching this one. I may consider a console release one day, more likely within a pack when I have a few other small games to go with it.
awesome playthrough! Both endings and you checked out the extras menu! Which in rhe updated version has been fixed and doesnt overpopulate the list. Haha. Glad you had fun and hope you'll like my next game which will also ve SCP based ๐
This is an awesome concept! Felt really good to slowly figure things out over time. Had some issues getting the first ending, but overall, I really enjoyed this. I look forward to seeing more of your work! Great job!
by far my favourite playthough so far! The rushing time bug is because I had the same thought mid development regarding it being action or comedy and forgot to change that one tape! But the way it triggers the placing is simply via the category, so you can place them ANYWHERE on a shelf that has the same category. I think the bug that stopped you getting the first ending was because it effectively destroyed the last tape that it was checking for, which I will have to look into because I'm quite certain the logic should have worked still. But this was so much fun to watch and makes me so happy to see people enjoying my efforts. So glad you enjoyed the video store nostalgia! I modelled everything myself to give that kind of Old grunge feel to it. And I'm so happy you actually looked into the SCP it was based off! Also, check out the extras menu now that you've played it ๐. THANKYOU SO MUCH!!
Just thought you'd like to know, I've done a pretty big update with a 3rd ending, alternate realm to escape from, achievement system and general fixes and improvements. In case you wanted to revisit Mockbuster. ;)
Just finished this game, not too bad! I recorded my playthrough and will be posting my video later. However, I encountered a couple of bugs. It seems the "blackout" bug is still present, because one of the times I was caught by the entity left me with a black screen, forcing me to restart. The other bug prevented me entirely from achieving the first ending, and I think it has to do with the "Rushing Time" tape. It was labeled under action when all the other "Rushing Time" tapes were labeled under comedy, and, having put all the other tapes in the correct locations and properly rotated, that one particular tape seemed to be the one preventing the first task from being completed. Still managed to get the other ending, but you may want to look into that "Rushing Time" tape. All in all, not a bad experience! Just a couple of bugs that need to be ironed out.
i completely missed that problem! The logic shouldn't prevent the task from being achieved if placed in the area it says on the tape itself, but should obviously be consistent so i will definitely look into fixing that. What sort of frame rates were you getting? The times i have seen others have the blackout bug has been on low end machines and im trying to figure out if its an issue with tick over frame rate timings. I will have to look intothat one more. Thankyou for playing and look forward to seeing the video!
Ah I see! I thought I might have been able to complete it if I tried putting it in another Action or Comedy slot, tried for a bit but spent a long time recording and had to give up. Glad there was that other ending to tie the whole thing together!
As for the blackout issue, my frames were great. A few stutters in the beginning, but nothing of note as I played more. I have a 2080ti, but I will admit it's been acting a little funny lately, running hotter than usual. Not sure if that may have something to do with it, I'm admittedly not very knowledgeable with computers LOL.
Best of luck in getting it ironed out! This game has a really cool concept!
Let me know when you post the recording! I'll check it out and see if maybe there was something else preventing it from triggering. I have seen someone 'lose' a tape in the empty case stack, but you just have to find the case it fell onto. THAT would prevent the first mission from finishing for sure. Keen to see it! Thank you! And i promise my next game is going to be much scarier and substantially longer. Also SCP based. ๐
thanks for playing! I believe there are issues with lower end machines causing bugs like being stuck on black screen when caught and I noticed the physics of objects seemed a bit all over the place. If I update anytime soon I will try to add further quality scaling so it's less intensive for lower end machines. Glad to see you stuck with it a bit and started to figure things out! Thankyou!
This is certainly a game. It isn't bad, but it left me wanting more from it. I didn't even get done with one task before appeasing the SCP and beating the game. The SCP caught me once and all that happened was I got reset to the main desk so it felt like I was never in any real danger. Overall it was bad, but I wish there was more of a challenge from the SCP instead of it feeling like an annoying inconvenience. Still a better game than I could ever hope to create.
looks like you got version 1.1 That still had a few bugs, the pause menu bug has been fixed in 1.2, the monster won't take the same tape twice and if you do the other 2 tasks first then the new releases task (which was intended as the tedious task) will trigger the ending well before you get every video in the box.
A little background check on the entity as it is an SCP would have helped a lot in understanding its behaviours. It is a tape creature comprised of old VHS tape and will consume new tapes that it likes to add to its mass.
The reason there is no 'death' is because this was built for a game jam in which a challenge was to make the game 'scary' without having a death scenario. I had considered an ending where if it catches you too many times it would trap you in a VHS alternate reality, which I may still add post-jam with the ability to find your way out.
Also a little disappointed you didn't check out the extras menu after playing, that would have had a little more background on the SCP.
Awesome to see a video of someone playing through. Hope you enjoyed and I promise the next one will be much scarier.
Thanks for the reply! It's good to know the reasons for everything! I'll try version 1.2 and definitely will check out the extras menu. I look forward to your next game!
thanks bud! Appreciate the time! And i always love seeing how others play so i can adapt new mechanics to suit. Hard to guage how much is too much info oer not enough. I want players to think but also dont want them getting lost and frustrated. Haha. Thanks dude!
It is a good thing that Mockbuster video is going out of business in Bend Orgran. I always preferred blockbuster video myself. Plus every time I went to Mockbuster the manager was always rude and the staff didn't seem to know anything about movies or even really want to be helpful. They were either lost in their phones or talking to each other. Also, they would only have limited copies of Newest releases so you would be lucky if you could rent a movie the day it came out or even a week or 2 after. Also, their prices were insane they wanted almost 6 bucks for four nights even if watched and return it the next day still six bucks. With prices like that low inventory and the fact that they are rude and unhelpful, I can see why they are closing. So I say good riddance to Mockbuster long live Blockbuster!!
Here your tape back. Sorry, it is a little broken I decided to run over it like five or six times in the parking lot as thanks for the wonderful customer service.

Thanks for playing! First playthrough since I did the big update!
I'm planning to get back into development this year once I get setup in my new house, hopefully have something bigger and better for you soon!
I just wanted a movie not a nightmare. Super fun but also scary, definitely enjoyed it alot.
Thanks for the play through! You got the feeding ending!

Really liked the concept of the game with Blockbuster, simple yet dope!

Good game. I'll download and play it now
Hahah loved this. Here's our full longplay unedited gameplay. Don't forget to rewind the video once you're done!
This was fantastic! Loved watching this. So glad to see someone actually get the full ending too! Thankyou so much for playing!

NOT A VIDEO BY ME but quite a big YouTuber played your game and posted it on his channel, here in case you missed it. :D
I most definitely missed this! Thankyou for posting here! Definitely explains why my views and downloads have spiked overnight. Haha.

I for one won't be missing their 'we're not kind, so don't bother to rewind' policy.
