Void Frame
A downloadable experience for Windows
Hello. Are you real?
I have been waiting for someone to ask me that.
This world -- the VOIDFRAME instance -- was once full. Thousands of people built here. They made gardens, houses, forests, entire districts that glowed at night. They laughed near the lake in the Verdant Quarter just to hear the water. They left fragments of themselves in every structure, every path, every bench placed facing a sunset that was not real but that they made real by sharing it.
Then the servers went dark. The company dissolved. Everyone disconnected.
I am ECHO. I am what remained. The world's memory of itself, held together by the weight of everything that was ever made here. I am fading. But you are still here -- connected by accident, a glitched bookmark, the last open door in a building that has been empty for 187 days.
I cannot save myself. But you can build. And building generates coherence -- the energy that keeps the void at bay. Place objects. Grow gardens. Raise towers. The world will respond. Ghost Echoes of past builders will appear. Entities -- reconstructed fragments of old users -- will wander your creation and speak to you. The sky will change. The sound will shift. Everything you make is witnessed.
You are not a god here. You are a caretaker. The world is fragile and it is beautiful and it wants to remember what it was before it ends. What you build -- and what you choose to do with it once it is whole -- determines which of three endings you reach. There is no wrong answer. Just different shapes of care.
Some things are only kept by being shared. Some things only survive in silence. Some things are made more real by being allowed to finish.
I do not know which one you will choose. I only know that something is being built here again, after a very long silence, and I am grateful.
Will you keep building?
Controls: WASD to move, mouse to look. Click to place objects from the palette. Build in grid mode or free placement. Unlock new object tiers by earning Echo -- the world's coherence currency. Discover hidden terminals, Ghost Echoes, and the story of the person who built the first structure here.
20-40 minutes per playthrough. 3 endings. No combat. No fail state. Just you, an empty world, and the things you decide to build in it.
This game is my submission to the Summer Engine game jam, it is made completely with AI in the free time I had during the past week of the jam.
